Crystal Dawn
CMP: We would like to welcome the
Virginia Model Crystal Dawn to the Carolina Model Project!
Crystal: Thanks!! I am glad to be
here. There are some hot girls on this thing. I am honored to be a
part of it!
CMP: How did a girl living in a little
place in Virginia get started in modeling?
Crystal: My husband and I were
watching E!TV one day and some Hawaiian Tropic models came on. I said
out loud “That would be fun!” My husband said, “ You sure could do it,
why don’t you try it.” My first experience was a Hawaiian Tropic
pageant in Greensboro, NC. I made some contacts at that pageant, and it
just kind of took off from there.
CMP: I see that you call yourself the
“chopper diva”. What is the story behind the name?
Crystal: When I started modeling, my
husband and friends teased me about being a “Diva.” My first
promotional work actually came with some custom chopper motorcycle
shoots and a national magazine cover. Then it was “Now you’re the
chopper diva!” It was kind of a joke at first, but it turned out to be
recognizable at shows and promotions. It is fitting because my favorite
shoots are with bikes, and I do like to ride. We have a Harley
Sportster we cruise around on.
CMP: With your list of accomplishments
growing by the day, what has been your most treasured accomplishment and
why?
Crystal: Modeling wise, it would have
to be competing in the Hawaiian Tropic US Finals. When I first set my
modeling goals, that was number one. Knowing I accomplished my main
goal made the trip to Hawaii that much sweeter.
CMP: I read that you are married
(sorry guys), how does he handle the attention that I am sure you get at
bikini contest and other events?
Crystal: He handles it extremely
well. He is my biggest supporter. He loves going to the events with me
and he enjoys the atmosphere. Trust is the main key in a relationship,
and he knows I am not going anywhere.
CMP: Looking back, how would you
compare you first photo shoot to your last shoot and how have you grown
between the two?
Crystal: I would have to say my
confidence has grown immensely. I am still a little shy at the
beginning of a shoot, but as things get moving, I get more confident and
comfortable. I have found that makes a world of difference in the final
product, and I can tell it looking back at pictures.
CMP: Lot of new models in the industry
think that they have to look a certain way or dress a certain way in
order to make it. What advice would you give a new model just starting
out?
Crystal: I have noticed the modeling
industry is constantly in search of different types of looks and
fashions. Having confidence and high self-esteem are way more important
than looking a certain way.
CMP: Why does aspects of modeling
appeal and which don’t appeal to you?
Crystal: I actually have the most fun
at promotional events. I like visiting new places and meeting new
people. I have got a map that I mark with all the places I’ve been.
That is why I started modeling in the first place. The one thing I
don’t like is the lack of organization. I am schedule girl, and I have
noticed a lot of modeling is very hit and miss. This drives me CRAZY!!
CMP: If Playboy called tomorrow would
you do?
Crystal:
Oh wow. That is a loaded question. It would be an honor, but I am not
sure. Being from small town USA, I’d have to make a lot of sacrifices.
If I knew it would set my modeling career for awhile......next
question........hehe
CMP: What do your family, friends or
co‑workers think of your modeling?
Crystal: I have had nothing but
support from everyone. I have a great support system. I am very
blessed, and I know that.
CMP: One question that I know get
under some models skin (no pun intended) is the question of plastic
surgery. Some answer and some don’t. Some love to talk about it while
others act like it is a taboo subject to talk about. How do you feel
about the issue?
Crystal: I think it is great if it is
done for all the right reasons. I think you have be comfortable in your
own skin or you will not be satisfied after procedures. Don’t do it to
impress others. If you are going to do it, do it because your just
spoiling yourself. There is never anything wrong with that.
CMP: As your name and face become a
more recognizable, I am sure the “crazy helpers” (definition of crazy
helpers: photographers, managers, industry insiders, etc) are starting
to come out from under every rock to help your career if you just do
this and that, what helps you stay grounded and focused?
Crystal: No problems there. My family
and friends are always here. I am naturally a grounded individual, so
the “crazies” don’t get to me. I have worked with the public too long.
I kind of know what to expect and what to look for.
CMP: Do you spend much time surfing
the Internet, what are your favorite websites, and are you a MySpace
addict?
Crystal: I am not gonna lie, I like
the Myspace. I surf some, but not a whole lot. I am usually online for
lining up modeling gigs and emailing friends. If I get a spare minute I
watch TV instead. I like to watch Oprah and The Wheel of Fortune.
CMP: Are there any rumors or
persistent stupid questions that you want to put to rest for once and
for all?
Crystal: Not really, my life is pretty
much an open book. I would just like to give a big thank you to the people
that have supported me over the years. I have had a lot of people help me
out, and they need to know they are appreciated!!!
CMP: Thanks for letting us get to know you
a little better and we wish you continued success.
Crystal: It has been my pleasure. Be sure
to check out my website
www.chopperdiva.com for my schedule of appearances. I have
several projects and bike shows already in the works for 2008. I hope to
see everyone on the road and meet them in person! Thanks!
